Typical Day

Picture
Our class scheduling is flexible and is determined by the individual teachers and staff members involved. There will always be times when schedules are interrupted for special activities and events.
ARRIVAL: An arrival activity will be out on the tables for children as they arrive. The activity may be manipulatives, free-play, a library or table activity. This allows the teacher to welcome each child into the class every day.

OPENING ACTIVITIES: Opening prayer, pledge of allegiance, flag songs, calendar, weather, letter of the week (number, color, etc.)

OUTSIDE: Outside play is a regular part of the daily schedule. We feel it is important to get outside to play whenever possible.   If the weather does not permit outdoor play, children will have a chance to either go down to the lobby, use the fellowship hall or stay in their rooms for indoor games.

P.E.: Formal P.E. class is conducted 1 day each week for our Butterfly classes.  During this time we teach movement skills, music awareness, ball handling skills, and much more.  Our purpose is to teach students the importance and joy of fitness.

BATHROOM TIME: This is at scheduled times however children are encouraged to use the bathroom whenever necessary, and are reminded frequently during the early weeks of school. Children are taught to wash their hands after using the bathroom, and to clean up after themselves.

SNACK TIME: After hands are washed children take time to enjoy their snack from home. Please remember we are peanut butter and peanut free.

LESSON: Center activities relating to unit theme or holiday.

ALPHABET TIME: Each teacher directs the class in alphabet or phonics related activities on a daily basis.

ART WORK: Art projects will be chosen for appropriateness to the unit of study or holiday. These projects are age appropriate and are designed for student completion.

FREE PLAY: Within the classroom the children are free to choose an activity from the manipulatives, blocks, housekeeping center, etc. At the end of the scheduled time, everyone participates in putting the toys away.

PREPARE FOR HOME: The teacher passes out any work for the children to take home, then the students are seated with their class in the lobby to wait for their rides home.

*Chapel Time:  Chapel Time is each Tuesday and is done with all of our students together.  While we do have 1 day for our Chapel Time, our Bible lessons are reviewed each day in class.
